asked the Prime Minister whether he will give the names and qualifications of all the members of the reconstituted Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries, and state which of these are the independent members chosen for their special experience of the current international art market and of collecting.

The Prime Minister

The following is a list and description of the present members of the Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries. The independent members are chosen for their independence and distinction.

The Earl of Rosse, M.B.E., F.S.A.—Chairman.

Sir Henry Dale, O.M., G.B.E., M.D., F.R.C.P.

The Right Honourable Viscount De L'Isle, V.C.

The Earl Spencer. T.D., F.S.A.

John C. Witt, Esq., F.S.A.

The above members represent groups of museums and galleries.

The Countess of Albemarle, D.B.E.—Chairman, Development Commission.

Sir Eric James, M.A., D.Phil.—High Master, Manchester Grammar School.

John Smith, Esq.—Director, Coutts' Bank.

The above are independent members selected by the Prime Minister.

There is at present one vacancy which will in due course be filled by an independent member.
