HC Deb 24 April 1958 vol 586 c95W
Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will give an approximate date when the next elections for the Legislative Council for Mauritius will be held.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The present intention is that a General Election should be held when it next falls due, that is, within three months of the dissolution of the present Council whose five-year period expires at the end of August, 1958.

The actual date of the election will depend on the completion of the necessary arrangements to bring the new system into operation and I cannot yet say when this will be.
