§ Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what proportion of the programmes given by the Mauritius 115W broadcasting system is in English and French, respectively; and whether, in view of the fact that English has now become the medium of primary education as from the 4th Standard, he will consider the advisability of increasing the amount of English spoken over the broadcasting system.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe Mauritius Broadcasting and News Service broadcasts for just over 57 hours a week. Of this, approximately 50 per cent. is in the French language and approximately 30 per cent. in English. (The balance is mainly in Hindustani, with some Chinese and Swahili.) The extent of broadcasting in English on the Service is a matter for the Government of Mauritius.
