§ 21. Mr. John Hallasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what reply he has given to the proposals of the Electrical Sign Manufacturers' Association for relaxing the present control on illuminated signs without detriment to amenity or public safety which were submitted to him on 9th July, 1957; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. BevinsThe Association were told that their proposals would be taken into consideration in the drafting of the new Regulations. This was done. My right hon. Friend's provisional view was that he could not accept their main proposal for relaxing control over illuminated signs on business premises, but that local planning authorities ought to be given wider discretion than they had at present to allow illuminated signs in areas of special control. Draft Regulations based on this view have been circulated to the Association and other bodies, and their comments are now being considered.
