Mr. Cooper

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many different types of pensions exist in the public service; and if he will detail these in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

The main pension schemes in the public service are those for

  • Armed Forces.
  • Civil Service.
  • Fire Service.
  • Foreign Service.
  • Local Government.
  • Police.
  • National Health Service.
  • Teachers.

Other categories of public servants with separate pension schemes include

  • Colonial Governors.
  • Judges.
  • Judicial Officers.
  • Magistrates.
  • Royal Irish Constabulary.

In some cases there are separate schemes for widows and dependants.
