§ 16. Mr. W. T. Williamsasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies under what conditions detainees who have been transferred to rehabilitation centres are to be employed in Kenya; what wages they will be paid and what freedom of movement they will be permitted.
§ Mr. Lennox-Boyd:As regards detainees held in "Works Camps" before their release, I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to the Question by the hon. Member for Eton and Slough (Mr. Brockway) on 5th March.
12WReleased detainees are generally housed for a short time in unguarded open transit camps and the only obligation is that they should sleep there at night; they may move freely by day. As regards work, they are in exactly the same position as ordinary people in the Reserves, and no special work is imposed on them by the authorities.
