HC Deb 14 March 1957 vol 566 cc203-4W
78. Mr. Leather

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in implementing his policy of increasing petrol companies' incomes to offset higher transport charges, he will reduce the petrol duty by a similar amount in order to avoid pushing the cost of living still higher.

Mr. Powell

The level of petrol prices is a matter for my noble Friend the Minister of Power. As regards the Duty, my hon. Friend will not expect me to comment, beyond saying that I have noted his suggestion.
