§ 59. Mr. Blenkinsopasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many local authorities have indicated to him their intention to reduce their programmes of housing for general need.

§ Mr. H. BrookeThe returns made by local authorities showing the number of the houses they propose to put into tender during the current financial year have not been analysed as between the different purposes for which houses would be built. The returns are in any case, as I explained in reply to the hon. Member for Gateshead, West (Mr. Randall) on 5th February, not wholly reliable; and they are now out of date. The balance of local authority programmes is undoubtedly changing as priority is given to slum clearance, but the overall rate of local authority building continues at a high level.
