§ 83. Mr. Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if his attention has been drawn to the numerous queries raised by the principal auditor of the accounts of the Seychelles in respect of allowances erroneously claimed, deductions from salary wrongly computed, and payments made without proper authority; and if he will dispatch an independent commission of inquiry to the Seychelles for the purpose of reviewing the financial system.
§ Mr. Profumo:In the 1955 Report, there were 20 queries on allowances erroneously claimed, involving a total of under £65 all of which has been recovered: there were four queries on deductions from salary wrongly computed, involving about £100; any amounts previously left undeducted have since been recovered: there were 13 payments without proper authority involving a total of £294; they were all made in advance of authority, which has since been obtained; no question of irregularity arose.
The creation of a post of Commissioner to advise on financial and fiscal policy was announced in Seychelles on 25th January.
