§ 76. Mr. G. Brownasked the Minister of Defence whether he is aware that the latest published figures for Regular 56W recruiting appear to disclose a likely deficiency of at least 150,000 men against the stated requirements of 375,000 men that, in order to achieve the ending of National Service by 1962, the rate of Regular recruiting will have to be at least doubled; and what action he proposes to take.
§ Mr. SandysThe rate of recruiting has certainly declined during the last three months. It is, however, much too soon to draw the conclusions contained in the right hon. Gentleman's Question. As regards the last part of the Question, I would refer him to my answer to his Question on 26th June.
