§ Mr. Iain MacleodAbout 10,000 are working a three-day week and just over 5,000 a four-day week. Since short-time working began early in December, it is understood that a number of workpeople have left voluntarily to take jobs in other industries. About 300 workpeople were discharged as redundant in the week ending 11th January and just over 1,400 in the week ending 18th January.
§ 75. Mr. Parkerasked the Minister of Labour what steps have been taken to place labour displaced in the motor car industry in Dagenham in other jobs.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodNotices have been displayed within the works for some weeks describing typical vacancies and advising workers needing other jobs to register at an employment exchange near to their homes or to their place of work. Everything possible will be done to help those who register at the exchanges.
