HC Deb 21 February 1957 vol 565 c85W
70. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education what instruction is given to children for the purpose of teaching them what sort of food is good for them; whether he will issue a circular encouraging the promotion of such instruction; and whether he will recommend that any such instruction shall bring to their attention the nourishing qualities of herrings, both fresh and kippered.

Sir E. Boyle

The handbook on Health Education which has just been published by my Department includes a chapter on nutrition and food designed to help teachers in dealing with this matter. There is a reference to herrings on page 117, but not to kippers. I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend a copy of the handbook.
