ButlerThe United Kingdom is not an immigration country and had already made, before the Hungarian uprising, a considerable contribution towards the liquidation of the refugee problem in Europe. In agreeing nevertheless to the reception of a large number of Hungarian refugees from Austria, Her Majesty's Government had regard not only to the plight of refugees but also to the intolerable burden that the enormous influx from Hungary was placing upon the Austrian authorities.
