HC Deb 19 February 1957 vol 565 c49W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses and tenancies in the city of Aberdeen will be liable to rent increases under the Rent Bill; the amount of these increases individually and in total; the number in each category of rent increase; and how many will be liable to decontrol.

Mr. Maclay

I am informed that there are about 25,000 let controlled houses in the city of Aberdeen with rateable values up to £40, but I have no information how many of these will satisfy the qualifying conditions for rent increases under the Bill.

I have no means of estimating the amounts of these increases or the number in each category of rent increase, but the maximum weekly increases will be 3s. 10d. for the 1956 Act increase, 7s. 8d. for the revised repairs increase of one-half, and 1s. 6d. in respect of the raising of the repairs increase from two-fifths to one-half of the 1954 recoverable rent.

About 400 let controlled houses in Aberdeen will be subject to decontrol under the provisions of Clause 9 (1) of the Bill.
