asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why, in view of the need for wage and salary restraint, the salary of the Prime Minister's Public Relations Officer was increased from £2,750 to £3,000 per annum.

The salary of the officer who serves my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster as well as the Primp Minister has been fixed with regard to salaries of Information Officers in the Civil Service, which have been increased since the salary referred to in the Question was settled.
