asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (a) What is the estimated average capital cost per kilowatt installed by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board for the scheme for generating electricity from a peat-powered gas turbine engine at Braehour in Caithness;
  2. (b) What is the estimated average cost of generation per kilowatt hour.

LORD STRATHCLYDE

The capital cost of the experimental power station and plant at Braehour (Altnabreac), is estimated to be equivalent to £157 per kilowatt. In addition, the expenditure on developing the bog is estimated at £51.5 per kilowatt. The estimated average cost of generation (including amortisation of the capital cost) is 2d. to 2.3d. per kilowatt hour.
