§ 47. Mr. Ellis Smithasked the Prime Minister if in view of the publication of official histories of various aspects of the last war, he will consider publishing a history of the House of Commons' part in the war, in particular, facsimile copies of documents issued to Members in 1940, when preparations were made for the evacuation of Parliament, details of the place to which the Government and Parliament were to be evacuated, the reasons for not carrying out the evacuation, with full details of the discussions that preceded that decision, and the other wartime activities of the House, such as fire watching and the Home Guard.
§ The Prime MinisterI do not think that the design of the official histories now in course of publication would readily accommodate a volume exclusively devoted to the part played by the House of Commons in the last war.
