asked Her Majesty's Government how many murders were reported in England in 1953, 1954, 1955 and 1956.

The number of murders recorded as known to the police in 1953, 1954, 1955 and 1956 were respectively 174, 166, 152 and 179. These figures include some eases which were, or may be, subsequently found not to be murders.
