18. Mr. H. Wilsonasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, in view of the high accident rate, including fatalities, in the newly-developing township of Kirkby, near Liverpool, in the period since 1st January, 1957, he will order an inquiry into the position; and take the necessary steps to make those roads for which he has responsibility safe, especially for children.
§ Mr. WatkinsonI understand that the police are already investigating the accident situation in this area, and I think it is best to leave it to them and the local authority to consider what steps should be taken to improve the position. No roads for which I am the responsible highway authority are involved. My Department will, of course, give any assistance that it can.
