§ 136. Mr. W. Yatesasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, in view of the invitation of Her Majesty's Government to foreign Governments involved in European Economic Union to a meeting in London on 28th February, 1957, if he will also propose an immediate Commonwealth Conference to consider the political, economic and social obligations and duties of the United Kingdom to the peoples of Her Majesty's Dominions and Commonwealth.
§ Mr. AlportI assume that my hon. Friend is referring to Press reports of a projected conference in London of the Western European Union. Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom are in constant consultation with other Commonwealth Governments on all matters of common concern, and my noble Friend does not consider that a meeting of the Western European Union necessitates a special Commonwealth Conference.
