HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c137W
126. Mr. Lee

asked the Minister of Supply whether he will make a statement outlining the Government's policy in respect to the Royal Ordnance factories; what are the figures of redundancy contemplated; and at which factories these will take place.

Mr. Aubrey Jones

As I stated in reply to the hon. Gentleman the Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme (Mr. Swingler) on 28th January, I am undertaking a review of the Royal Ordnance capacity and will make a statement when the results are available. Meanwhile, in addition to the redundancy of 570 industrials and 30 non-industrials at the Royal Ordnance Factory, Radway Green, which was declared in October last year, the following redundancies have recently been announced:

Industrial Non-industrial
Birtley 400 34
Blackburn 350 24
Wigan 250 17
Woolwich 300 62
1,300 137
Until the Services' requirements have been finally established I cannot say whether it will be necessary to declare other redundancies during the year.
