HC Deb 05 February 1957 vol 564 c31W
41. Mr. Moyle

asked the Secretary of State for War, in view of the fact that local leave in Cyprus is almost impracticable owing to the continuous state of emergency, whether he will consider giving home leave to troops who were engaged in the Suez operations and have been returned to Cyprus.

Mr. John Hare

The extent to which local leave in Cyprus can now be granted is limited only by the operational need to keep units at a reasonable strength. It would not be fair to treat troops engaged in the Suez operation better than those concerned with the anti-terrorist campaign.
