HC Deb 09 December 1957 vol 579 c94W
50. Mr. Pentland

asked the Minister of Health if there is now the same shortage of sanitary inspectors as prevailed in 1955; and what assistance his Department is giving to local authorities in order to overcome this problem.

Mr. R. Thompson

Exact figures of shortages are not available, but there has since 1955 been a considerable rise in the number of newly qualified inspectors. Recruitment should continue to improve as a result of the work of the Public Health Inspectors Education Board, and the other measures that have been taken.
