Dr. Johnson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the principal insecticides of a poisonous nature put into use in agriculture since 1945; and whether he will indicate their chemical composition.

The following tables give the common and chemical names of the principal insecticides, and a list of the principal other pesticides, which have been put into use in agriculture in this country since 1945, and for the use of which there are statutory or officially recommended precautions:

INSECTICIDES

aldrin a product containing 95 per cent. of 1:2:3:4:10:10-hexachloro-1: 4:4a:5:8:8a-hexahydro-exo-1:4-endo-5:8-dimethanonaphtha-lene.
demeton-methyl a mixture of 2-ethylthioethyl dimethyl phosphorothionate and S-2-ethylthioethyl dimethyl phosphorothiolate.
dieldrin a product containing 85 per cent. of 1:2:3:4:10:10-hexachloro-6:7-epoxy-1:4:4a:5:6:7:8:8a-octahydro-exo-1:4-endo-5:8-dimethanonaphthalene.
dimefox NNN'N'-tetramethylphosphoro-diamidic fluoride.
malathion S-1:2-di (ethoxycarbonyl) ethyl dimethyl phosphorothiolothionate.
parathion diethyl p-nitrophenyl phosphorothionate.
schradan bis-NNN'N'-tetramethylphos-phorodiamidic anhydride.
tepp bis-OO-diethylphosphoric anhydride.
