HC Deb 10 April 1957 vol 568 cc117-8W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will give, in some appropriate method, the meaning of the double white line experiment now being tried out on the London to Maidstone Road, as a large number of motor drivers are ignorant of its meaning and do not respect its safety proposals.

Mr. Watkinson

As I informed my hon. Friend the Member for Truro (Mr. G. Wilson) on 3rd April, I am arranging, in conjunction with the motoring organisations, for further publicity to be given to this experiment on the Dover and Portsmouth Roads. The rule for motorists is not to cross the solid white line when it is on their side of the road.
