HC Deb 30 October 1956 vol 558 c115W
7. Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government why he made a statement of the Government's intended legislation at a political party rally, and not to the House of Commons.

Mr. Sandys

This is not the first time that a statement of policy has been made at a party conference.

8 and 9. Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) whether he will make a statement on the Government's policy regarding the decontrol of rent-restricted properties ;

(2) whether he is aware that increase of rents is inflationary ; and whether, as it is the Government's policy to combat inflation, he will take such steps as may be necessary to ensure that rents will not be increased.

Mr. Sandys

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on 23rd October to the hon. Member for Salford, East (Mr. Allaun).
