§ 23. Captain Pilkingtonasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation how many vehicles there were on the roads in 1938 and 1955; how many he estimates there will be in 1956; and to what extent this latest estimate shows an increase on previous estimates.
§ Mr. WatkinsonThe numbers of motor vehicles with licences current at the end of August were 2,987,470 in 1938; 5,859,349 in 1955; and 6,344,579 in 1956. The rate of increase over the last two years is consistent with estimates given by my predecessor.
