HC Deb 29 May 1956 vol 553 cc8-10W
Mr. Knox Cunningham

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation the number of certificates of officers of the Merchant Service which have been, respectively, cancelled or suspended by his Department as a result of recommendations by courts of formal investigation held under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, during each of the past 10 years; and, in cases of suspension, the period of such suspension.

Mr. Watkinson

The following tables give the figures for the Merchant Service and the fishing fleet, but I should like to point out that the certificates are cancelled or suspended in these cases by the counts of formal investigation themselves, not by my Department.
