HC Deb 10 May 1956 vol 552 cc117-8W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the President of the Board of Trade his reasons for continuing the paper control now that manufacturers can buy as much raw material as they wish to make into paper.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The greater part of the raw materials required for paper-making is imported and these imports, as well as those of paper and board, are still subject to restriction for balance of payments reasons.

Control over the distribution of paper inside this country is limited in practice to newsprint and is being continued for the present at the request of the newspapers themselves.
