§ 97. Mr. Nabarroasked the Minister of Fuel and Power to state the total inland consumption of coal during twelve months ended 31st March, 1956; and how much of this, in tons, represented domestic consumption of coal, including stated figures, respectively, for coal equivalent in respect of gas and electricity used for domestic purposes.
§ Mr. Aubrey JonesFull information for the year ended 31st March, 1956, is not yet available, but for the calendar year 1955 total inland consumption of coal was 215.5 million tons. Of this, 36.9 million tons were consumed as coal by domestic users (including miners) and 4.8 million as coke or other solid fuel, and it is estimated that domestic consumption of electricity and gas amounted to some 13.1 and 9.4 million tons of coal equivalent respectively.
