§ 64. Mr. Russell
asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will give an estimate, based on table 18 of his Department's Digest of Statistics, of the amount of coal which has been lost, in the most recent convenient year, through absenteeism above its pre-war level.
§ Mr. Aubrey Jones
Between 1937 and 1943 the absence percentage rose by about 5 per cent. and has since remained nearly constant at about 12 per cent. The figures are not, however, precisely comparable and no reliable estimate can be given of the effect on output.
