§ 59. Mr. Smithersasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what measures are being taken by the British Guiana Government to improve the living conditions of Amerindians in the Southern Rupununi Savannahs.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe Government have paid special attention to the improvement of medical facilities and the incidence of malaria has been greatly reduced. A scheme has been prepared for assisting cattle rearing by the Amerindians and they are benefiting from the improved economy of the area resulting from the construction of air strips and tracks. Government are assisting by grants the nine mission schools which serve the area.
