§ Mr. J. StuartAs I indicated in answer to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for South Angus (Captain Duncan), on 1st May, the associations of local authorities saw difficulties about the proposals made by the Interdepartmental Committee on Slaughterhouses for the creation of new slaughterhouse authorities. I subsequently asked the associations to consider other proposals designed to serve as the basis of the long-term improvement of the slaughterhouse service, but so far I cannot claim to have achieved that measure of agreement which I had hoped for. I shall continue my consultations with the associations, and shall make a statement on the results as soon as possible.
