Mr. Skeffingtonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, why, having regard to the responsibilities of the Atomic Energy Authority, the Chemical Research Laboratory of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research occupies the time of nearly one-quarter of its staff on radio-chemical work.
§ Mr. BevinsThe radio-chemical work at the Chemical Research Laboratory is carried out under contract for and at the 25W cost of the U.K. Atomic Energy Authority because it is mutually agreed that this is the most convenient and economical arrangement. The staff of the Chemical Research Laboratory has been augmented specifically for this purpose from time to time.
