§ 81. Mr. Hunterasked the Postmaster-General what rearrangements in the Post Office development programme have been made to effect the £5,250,000 reduction required by Her Majesty's Government.
Dr. HillThe rearranged programme continues to provide for a full effort in the supply of local telephone service in 1956–57. Longer-term projects will be somewhat delayed, particularly the provision of new trunk cables. As stated in the White Paper on Defence recently published, our defence expenditure in 1956 will be less than in 1955.
