§ Mr. Iain MacleodI would refer the hon. Member to the statement made by my predecessor in opening the debate on Industry and Employment in Scotland on 14th July last in which he describes the steps being taken to deal with unemployment in Scotland. In January of this year, the total number unemployed was 59,155 (2.7 per cent.) which was 7,000 less than at the same date in the previous year.
