HC Deb 21 February 1956 vol 549 c27W
Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many miners were disabled by accident for more than three days in 1955; and the average period of disablement.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I regret that information in the exact form requested is not available. During the twelve-monthly period ended 5th June, 1954, industrial accidents among male workers in the coal mining industry gave rise to nearly 270,000 spells of injury benefit lasting more than three days. The average duration of these spells was just over 3½ weeks.
