95. Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Postmaster-General to make a statement about exclusive arrangements for televising sporting events of national interest, having regard to Section 7 of the Television Act.

I am glad to say that the B.B.C. and the I.T.A. Programme Companies have agreed that neither the Corporation nor the Companies will seek exclusive television rights in any of the following events: the Derby; the Grand National; the English F.A. Cup Final; the Scottish F.A. Cup Final; Test Matches; Wimbledon Tennis; the Boat Race; the Empire Games (Cardiff) 1958; and the Olympic Games, when held in Great Britain.
