48. Mr. Fenner Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will ask the Governor of British Guiana to review the sentence of six months passed on Rodwell Samuel Atherley at the City Magistrate's Court in Georgetown on 26th November last for importing a publication which he stated he did not know was banned.

As this case is stillsub judice, it would be improper for my right hon. Friend to consider any action. In any case, the power to grant pardon or remission of sentence has been delegated by Her Majesty to the Governor to exercise as he sees fit and my right hon. Friend's normal practice is not to intervene in any way.
