§ 52. Mr. Osborneasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to give a list of the goods which British industry is permitted to export to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Poland and/or Czechoslovakia, but is not allowed to export to China; and, since goods can be transported from Eastern Europe to China, what is the reason for these extra restrictions on trade with China.
§ Lord John HopeAs regards the first part of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade on 2nd February to the hon. Member for Eccles (Mr. Proctor). The controls on trade with China were introduced by the United Kingdom and the other members of the Consultative Group following the United Nations Resolution of 18th May, 1951, which calls upon member States to apply an embargo on the export to China of certain goods useful in war.
