HC Deb 04 December 1956 vol 561 c113W
83. Sir J. Lucas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what provision has been made for the relief of British refugees expelled from Egypt who arrived in this country without funds; and whether Her Majesty's Government will make a grant to the Red Cross or other organisation for this purpose.

Major Lloyd-George

Emergency arrangements are already in existence for providing accommodation and other assistance through the National Assistance Board to those British subjects from Egypt who are in need of it. Her Majesty's Government are, however, discussing alternative arrangements for the future with the Anglo-Egyptian Aid Society and other voluntary organisations and are sympathetically inclined to giving financial support to the voluntary organisations within appropriate limits and subject to proper safeguards.
