79. Commander Maitlandasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what proposals he has to improve the present position and future prospects of officers working in the Department of the Director of Naval Ordnance.

Sir Ian Clark Hutchisonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he is aware of the great disparity in rates of pay which now exists between officers of corresponding ranks in the Naval Ordnance Inspection Department and on the General List, respectively, consequent upon the changes announced in Command Paper No. 9692; and what action he intends to take to improve the financial position of the officers in the inspection pool.
§ Mr. Wingfield DigbyAs I stated in the Navy Estimates debate on 8th March, the Committee under the chairmanship of Sir Barclay Nihill will cover the future position of these officers when it makes recommendations to the Board of Admiralty. In the meantime, however, we are considering separately whether their salaries should be increased.
