§ 1. Sir F. Medlicottasked the Minister of Health if his attention has been drawn to the report made to him by the regional psychiatrist of the East Anglian Regional Hospital Board referring to the need for two large hospitals, each with at least 1,000 beds, for mental defectives in the East Anglian Region who are in need of hospital facilities; and to what extent he is planning to meet this need.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodI am aware of this report, and several schemes are in hand to provide more beds in this area. But as I have informed the Regional Hospital Board, I am unable to comment on the major proposals until I have received the report of the Royal Commission on the law relating to mental illness and mental deficiency.
