§ LORD HANKEY
asked Her Majesty's Government whether they can confirm, deny or explain the following extract from an article by the military correspondent of a London newspaper published on September 15, 1955, which has caused some public concern, namely:—`No total war for seven years'; such is now the basic assumption made by Service planners and Treasury alike. § THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (LORD CARRINGTON)
I can state categorically that no such assumption has been adopted by Her Majesty's Government for defence planning.
