HL Deb 29 November 1955 vol 194 c938WA
LORD HANKEY

asked Her Majesty's Government whether they can confirm, deny or explain the following extract from an article by the military correspondent of a London newspaper published on September 15, 1955, which has caused some public concern, namely:— `No total war for seven years'; such is now the basic assumption made by Service planners and Treasury alike. The slogan has a familiar and ominous ring.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (LORD CARRINGTON)

I can state categorically that no such assumption has been adopted by Her Majesty's Government for defence planning.
