HC Deb 09 November 1955 vol 545 c189W
50. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what proportion of road traffic accidents are due to the driver being under alcoholic influence.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

"Road Accidents, 1953" which were compiled by my Department on the basis of police reports indicate that the driver being under the influence of drink or a drug was a factor in one-third of one per cent. of accidents during that year. My hon. Friend will appreciate the difficulty of obtaining completely comprehensive statistics.
