asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many types of notices have been erected or put out restricting the parking of motor vehicles in the Metropolitan area; and what is the wording of such notices.

Notices of the following types are in use in the Metropolitan Police District:

1. NO WAITING

  1. (a) A circular sign bearing the words "No WAITING" followed by the days and times of restriction, in black or white on a yellow or blue background and surrounded by a red border. (Erected by the local authority to give effect to Regulations of the Minister of Transport.)
  2. (b) A rectangular sign with wording similar to the above with the addition of the words "METROPOLITAN POLICE," the lettering being in black on yellow and surrounded by a black border. (Used in connection with police experiments.)
  3. (c) A sign similar to the preceding but with a white background. (Being superseded by type (b).)

2. No LOADING OR UNLOADING A circular sign bearing the following inscription in black on a yellow background and surrounded by a red border: "No LOADING OR UNLOADING 11.30 a.m.-1 p.m.; 3 p.m.-6.30 p.m. MON.-FRI." (Used for experimental purposes with "No WAITING" signs.)

3. No WAITING WITH UNILATERAL LOADING OR UNLOADING A rectangular sign with the following in black on a white background and surrounded by a black border: "METROPOLITAN POLICE—

NO WAITING—NO LOADING THIS SIDE ON
UNLOADING

ODD/EVEN DATES MON.-FRI. 11.30–6.30 p.m." (Used in connection with police experiments.)

C. UNILATERAL WAITING

  1. (a) A circular flap sign with the following in black or white on a yellow or blue background and surrounded by a red border: (on one side) "NO WAITING LOADING OR UNLOADING THIS SIDE TODAY"; (on the other side) "WAITING LIMITED TO 30 MINUTES IN ANY HOUR". The sign also gives the days and times of the restriction. In outer areas there are variations in the wording to permit loading and unloading on the prohibited side and to extend the permitted waiting time. (Erected by the local authority to give effect to Regulations of the Minister of Transport.)
  2. (b) A rectangular sign with the following in black on yellow and white on blue, surrounded by a black border: "METROPOLITAN POLICE—NO WAITING LOADING OR UNLOADING THIS SIDE ON ODD/EVEN DATES—30 MINUTES LIMIT ON EVEN/ODD DATES" and an indication of 201 the days and times of restriction. (These and the signs described at (c) to (f) below are used in connection with police experiments.)
  3. (c) A sign similar to the preceding but in black and white only and without the reference to the 30 minutes limit on other dates. (Being superseded by type (b).)
  4. (d) A sign similar to type (b) but without the words "LOADING OR UNLOADING".
  5. (e) A black and white sign, otherwise identical with type (d), by which it is being superseded.
  6. (f) A sign similar in appearance to type (b) but simply bearing the words "METROPOLITAN POLICE—NO WAITING THIS SIDE ON ODD/EVEN DATES" and with no reference to days or times.

5. No CENTRE PARKING A rectangular sign with "METROPOLITAN POLICE—NO CENTRE PARKING" in black on white and surrounded by a black border. (Used in connection with police experiments.)

6. OCCASIONAL RESTRICTIONS ON PARKING, (Used in connection with road works and on ceremonial or special occasions.)

  1. (a) A rectangular sign with "METROPOLITAN POLICE—NO PARKING", in black on white and surrounded by a black border.
  2. (b) An identical sign with the addition of the words "THIS SIDE" or "IN THIS STREET."
  3. (c) A similar sign bearing the words "METROPOLITAN POLICE" followed by the words "COACHES ONLY" or "TAXICABS ONLY".
