HC Deb 04 May 1955 vol 540 c143W
Mr. Page

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) to what extent the slum-clearance programme of a local authority in any one year is taken into consideration by him in fixing the number of dwellings which that local authority should submit for approval during that year;

(2) to what extent, in fixing the number of dwellings which a local authority should submit for approval during any one year, he takes into consideration the slum-clearance programmes of neighbouring local authorities.

Mr. Sandys

Where information is available, slum clearance is one of the factors taken into account when allocations are made. But it will not be possible to obtain a balanced view of local authorities' housing requirements for slum clearance until they have all submitted their proposals under Section 1 of the Housing Repairs and Rents Act, 1954. They have until the end of August to do this.
