There is no such thing as a special hardship allowance in connection with National Assistance. If the hon. Member is referring to discretionary additions to meet special circumstances the estimated annual cost of such additions was £5,770,000 in 1951, £6,830,000 in 1952 and £7,600,000 in 1953. An estimate for 1954 is not yet available.
