HC Deb 02 March 1955 vol 537 cc288-9W
119. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, in view of the importance of A66 as a traffic route for heavy industrial loads passing between Lancashire and the North-East Coast, what steps he is taking to improve the road and provide adequate lay-bys, shelters, and similar facilities.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I am at present considering what improvements are to be carried out on this road during the coming financial year. Among them I hope to include some widening and realignment of the existing carriageway in Yorkshire and the provision of two additional lay-bys in Westmorland.

120. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation in view of the potential snow danger to heavy industrial loads and their drivers travelling between Lancashire and North-East England, what steps he is taking to install an adequate snow-warning system on the exposed section of A66.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Full warning was given to drivers during the recent bad weather that before setting out they should get the latest news about the state of the roads from the police or the motoring organisations.
