Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation the number of accidents in which personal injury and loss of life, respectively, was sus-stained within the designated area of the new town of East Kilbride, and on the trunk roads within the county of Lanark last year and the year before, respectively.

In 1954 28 accidents involving personal injury and 1 fatal accident occurred in the new town of East Kilbride, compared with 37 personal injury and no fatal accidents in 1953. On trunk roads in Lanarkshire in 1954 there were 312 accidents involving personal injury and 12 fatal accidents, compared with 262 personal injury accidents and 22 fatal accidents in 1953.
